![]() ![]() Ring provides tips on how to mount the solar panel properly, which we appreciated. Sunlight replenishmentĪs residents of the dreary Pacific Northwest, we wondered if the solar panel would do a decent job of keeping the camera powered through the gray, rainy spring. But overall, video quality is great with this camera. Had we mounted it closer to the ground - ours was about 15 feet above – we might’ve managed better results. As with all cameras, video quality is best during the day, but we found the night vision workable. The siren, two-way speaker, and built-in light all did their job. It also has two motion-activated lights that run vertically down each side of the camera. It features 1080p HD video, a 140-degree field-of-view lens, two-way audio, and a 110-decibel alarm. The camera is weatherproof and rated for temperatures between minus five and 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Ring’s oddly shaped camera won’t win any awards for styling, but don’t let the lack of looks fool you. You can buy the camera and solar panel separately, but that adds up to $250 you get a discount when you buy the bundle. The camera that comes with Ring’s Spotlight Cam Solar bundle is the same as the company’s Spotlight Cam Battery ($199), but with a 7.75-by-5.5 inch rectangular solar panel that you connect to the camera and mount next to it. We put it to the test to find out how it performed. It’s an outdoor camera that comes with a small, separate solar panel, meaning that sunlight does the work for you. The Ring’s Spotlight Cam Solar ($229) offers a solution. That can be a huge pain in the you-know-what, depending on where the camera is mounted. But there is a downside to wireless offerings - eventually, you’ll have to replace the battery. The best wireless outdoor security cameras, like the Netgear Arlo Pro II and the Blink XT, offer solutions to the problem. Even the nicest-looking outdoor home security cameras can become an eyesore with a cord dangling below. Power cords are ugly, especially when they run down the side of your house. I thought this was amazing at the time, although I was also concerned about how we were going to make the story work with the existing characters from the already established Star Fox series. The idea was to create Star Fox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet (as it was initially known) for the N64, but of course we eventually ended up transferring to GameCube as that platform released. “We were to work with Shigeru Miyamoto and Takaya Imamura ironing out design issues and coming up with a new storyline to make things flow smoothly, and that’s exactly what we did.”Īpparently, NCL were very impressed with what they had seen of the game and so during the show we met and discussed the possibility of a ‘marriage’ between the “Star Fox” and “Dinosaur Planet” IPs to create something really special. But once we got out to Los Angeles for the event, we were told that we were going to keep a lot of our work under wraps because we had a meeting scheduled with Nintendo to discuss the demo. It was always the plan to make an epic adventure!Ībout a year into development, we put a demo together for E3 2000 and I was looking forward to the game being shown. We had big plans for making a lot of cinematic cutscenes and plenty of dialogue throughout to really pull it all together. ![]() We were so busy focusing on the Dinosaur-themed aspects of the game that it just didn’t occur to us that there may not be room for two Canine heroes in space, so we pushed on and developed the story. At this point, there were no comparisons drawn with Fox Mcloud, and it never even crossed my mind that there was already a very popular “Star’ fox out there in a universe of his own. But this project was abandoned and so he was moved into DKR and that’s as far as his career went! Kev Bayliss’s initial sketch for the Star Fox Adventures pitch.Īfter rethinking the design a little, it was decided to change Dinosaur Planet’s main character to a wolf (Sabre), and also to include a 2nd playable character (Krystal), each with different abilities. It was an early 3D platforming test and I wanted him to use his claws to scale walls. In Dinosaur Planet, Timber was going to be a ‘time-travelling tiger’ with a rucksack, little fingerless gloves, a baseball cap and a small dinosaur for a sidekick.Īctually, I even tried out Timber in a project prior to DKR, where he walked around on all fours like a real tiger cub. In fact, I was quite excited to have a game coming out which was pretty much named after him as the main man! I wasn’t too disappointed about this, to be honest, because luckily Diddy was also my character design too. However, due to a last-minute rebrand which saw Diddy take pole position as the main character, Timber had to accept second place and never really made the leading role. “In Dinosaur Planet, Timber was going to be a ‘time-travelling tiger’ with a rucksack, little fingerless gloves, a baseball cap and a small dinosaur for a sidekick.” That’s because he was intended to be the star of the previous year’s racing game, when it was originally known as R.C. ![]() The main character was originally going to be – believe it or not – Timber, the cute tiger from Diddy Kong Racing. But Fox wasn’t actually the second protagonist we tried for Dinosaur Planet, but the third…Īfter finishing work on Diddy Kong Racing in 1998, I started work on a project that was to become a 3D adventure game based in a fantasy style world, similar to that of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time but in a prehistoric environment. Fully playable build offers a glimpse at the game which became Star Fox Adventures ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() She also claimed to have introduced Elvis to his future manager Colonel Tom Parker, shaping the history of music as we know it today. Mae Axton, who became known as the Queen Mother of Nashville, wrote over 200 songs, 14 of which made the US charts. Elvis loved the dark, brooding song and immediately made plans to record it. ![]() She invited the pair up to her room to hear her new song. She bumped into Elvis and Bob Neal (Presley’s manager at the time) in the lobby of a hotel. Axton stated that everyone has someone who cares, and when those who love him learn of his death, they’ll be broken-hearted, so she came up the idea of putting a “Heartbreak Hotel” at the end of that lonely street.Ī few months after the song was completed, Mae Axton attended a disc jockey convention in Nashville with “Heartbreak Hotel” on her tape player. The song gave Elvis his first No.1 pop record, topping Billboard’s Top 100 chart, became his first million-seller, and was the best-selling single of 1956.ĭurden and Axton got the idea for the song after reading a newspaper story about a man who had cut the labels off his clothing and destroyed all documents that could identify him, then left a one-line suicide note. Written by Tommy Durden and Mae Boren Axton, “Heartbreak Hotel” was Elvis’ first release on his new record label RCA Victor. Also following a suggestion from Presley, Scholes used a hallway at the studio to get an unusual echo for the single. Presley explained to Sholes that he had to “jump around to sing it right.” Sholes then arranged for the whole studio to be re-miked so that Presley’s voice and guitar could be picked up from anywhere in the studio, and recording continued. He noticed that Presley’s voice and guitar were not always being picked up by the microphone. Producer Steve Sholes discovered a problem while recording Presley. Recording at RCA was a different experience for Presley and his band, who were used to the more relaxed atmosphere at Sun Studio. It became a staple of Presley’s repertoire in live appearances, last performed by him on at the Civic Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Presley had first performed “Heartbreak Hotel” during a live show in December 1955 during a tour of the Louisiana Hayride, but the song gained strong popularity after his appearance on Stage Show in March 1956. Every part of that song is integral - from Presley’s’ opening vocal, to Bill Black’s descending bass line, the drifting piano, the guitar solo by Chet Atkins, all turn the song into the tune we love. “Heartbreak Hotel” is a great example of that. At that point you’ll have no idea how the song is going be received. Because, let’s face it, when you learn to play a new song, you will work out your bit to the best of your ability, then lay down the track. Outro Maybe I didn't treat you Quite as good as I should have Maybe I didn't love you Quite as often as I could have Maybe I didn't hold you All those lonely, lonely times And I guess I never. I’ve often wondered how one feels, as a musician, when a song you’ve played on becomes a timeless classic. “Heartbreak Hotel” was one of the songs recorded during this session, which was released as a single just 17 days later. On 10 January 1956, Elvis Presley made his first recordings for RCA Records at The Methodist Television, Radio and TV Studios, 1525 McGavock Street, Nashville. ![]() ![]() ![]() Legal only for use in competition vehicles which may never be registered, licensed, and/or used on public streets or highways and also for use in other exempted vehicles.
