Love the way weapons upgrade by use and give various passive and active abilities, love the weird obtuseness of the black hole hour, the hordes, the monoliths (which I haven't quite figured out yet) and the frequent "can I actually go there?" moments that come from the addition of platforming. the amount of hidden walls, circuitous side passages, and even (seemingly) optional bosses seems pretty impressive so far and judging by the achievements I managed to sequence break fairly substantially too. once you open the world up a bit there are some fairly interesting locations from a design perspective if not always an architectural one though. The space station you are on is orbiting a black hole, and where it is in that orbit can impact the enemies (spawning in greater number and difficulty) as well as the equipment you will encounter on the station. Hellpoint has some mechanical differences (such as the black hole, your healing item being filled by the damage you deal and weapons having unlockable traits) from FROM’s series as well as a bigger focus on vertical level-design thanks to a jump button.
